Quick Flicks for the Week of 10/28/07





It was the 1970s and a new sound was echoing through New York City like a revolution. It was hot, it was sexy, it was salsa. From a smoky club in the barrio to Madison Square Garden, one man would rise above the rest to become an icon still beloved by fans today. With his dynamic and devoted wife Puchi by his side, Hector Lavoe blazed a path through life that left a legacy of extraordinary music and personal destruction.

Ophélie is a grieiving young widow, Matt is a heartbroken artist. Both feel as though they have lost everything until they find each other.



Devastated over his breakup with his girlfriend, Carter Webb leaves Los Angeles to stay with his ailing Grandmother in her suburban Detroit home. Across the street lives the Hardwicke family. As Carter struggles to reconcile his own inner conflicts, he is drawn into the pains and loves of the Hardwicke women. All the Hardwicke women, in their way, fall in love with Carter. Each woman, in her own way, helps Carter find his way back.

After defeating eight-armed cyborg Doctor Octopus, Spider-Man faces off against a new crop of villains, including the shape-shifting Sandman, in the third adventure of the comic book series. While Spidey's superpowers are altered by an alien organism, his alter ego, Peter Parker, deals with nemesis Eddie Brock and gets caught up in a love triangle.



Oscar nominee Don Cheadle stars as real-life radio trailblazer Ralph "Petey" Greene, a high-school dropout and charismatic ex-con who leveraged a prison disc jockey gig into a stint at a Washington, D.C., radio station, a television show and an invitation to the White House.

Darling
Aditya has a wife at home and a girlfriend at work. Things are going well until his girlfriend becomes pregnant and he must confess that he cannot leave his wife for her. Aditya accidentally kills his girlfriend and thinks his troubles are over, that is until she returns as a ghost hell bent on revenge.


Dhamaal
Fun filled caper about four friends -- Roy, who believes that he is the best detective in the world; Manav, who actually happens to be the biggest idiot in the world, but is blissfully unaware about it and his elder brother, Aditya, aka Adi, whose encyclopaediac half knowledge about everything only adds to the great expertise of his group. These four loveable idiots live and work together. Their idea of work? Doing small time con jobs! The thought of earning an honest living has never even crossed their minds. Special features include making of the film, interviews of cast and crew, interactive menus of songs and scenes for easy access. When violence erupts, Frank is forced to return home and with an unlikely assist from Laurel, faces old rivals on new terms.

Four Long Island friends follow in their respective families' footsteps and become clam diggers in this touching comedy.

Black Book by Paul Verhoeven.

Rachel, a young Jewish girl hiding from the Nazi's during World War II in The Netherlands, sees her hiding place blown up. She escapes with her rescuer, a young sailor, but the boat sails into a trap set by the Germans. She escapes and joins the resistance, and under the false name Ellis de Vries she meets SS-hauptsturmführer Ludwig Muntze on a train smuggling weapons. She goes to his headquarters to meet him again and gain his trust, and soon they fall in love.She joins his office as a spy, but when someone within the resistance betrays her, she is now seen as an enemy betraying both sides. All that's left to do is run with the man she learned to love and find a way to prove her innocence by finding the real betrayer.
